Free at last!

I have a secret

Until recently I have been ashamed to admit, discuss, evaluate or think about said secret.
*
*
I have felt the pain deep in my soul that my secret could be considered cheep, not worth my time, gross, unnatural and many other things.
*
*
I have hidden my secret and not let the world know about it for about four years.
*
*
I tried to push the feelings down and allow them to expire.
*
*
But I had no such luck.
*
*
Then one day about two weeks ago, the secret was finally revealed, it came bubbling out, spilling over as though I was boiling too much water in a pan and walked away.
*
*
It was about 5:30 p.m. and I realized I had no idea what I was going to make my dear children for dinner.
*
*
I remembered a trip to the store a few days prior where I had a momentary weakness and had given in to my secret.
*
*
I thought, no, it can't be! I can't submit my children to this, it's not time!
*
*
But alas, the power of my secret love was too strong for even the strongest of body builders to resist - 'cause they're super strong.
*
*
Then I did the unthinkable and revealed my secret.
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
I love ramen noodles!
*
*
That’s right, I said it, I have gotten it off my chest once and for all.
*
*
I love ramen noodles, I think they are delicious.
*
*
And what’s worse is my love for them has rubbed off on my innocent Brielle who knows no better. She can down an entire package all on her own and live to tell about it.
*
*
My dear Claire is holding strong and tolerates them but doesn't love them.
*
*
I will no longer live in secret or hiding.
*
*
I went and bought a huge box of them yesterday and I will NEVER go back to my life without ramen.
*
*
Oh, ramen, how I’ve missed you these past four years!

Slacker

I've been a slacker on keeping up with blogging, meaning both reading other blogs and updating my own. I feel like I'm so out of the loop...is it sad that I feel like I don't have a grasp on life without my blogging fix? Probably, but I'm over it.

I turned 25 last Friday (the 20th) and I'm still waiting for my quarter life crisis to ensue. I figured if I stayed out of the loop, the mere task of catching up would set off the crisis, either that or if I stayed low and lazy it would happen on its own. No such luck, no crisis...oh well, maybe it's just not meant to be. I really wanted a flashy car or a boob job or a crazy new obsession with collecting life size Barbie dolls...but none of those have happened. I will just settle for a mid-life crisis in another 25 years I suppose.

For my birthday the Davis family girls all decided that they would love to celebrate my birthday in style, so we went on a weekend getaway all about celebrating my life!!! I'm JUST that awesome! Okay, so maybe it really had nothing to do with me at all, but I will continue in my thinking that my life is one to be celebrated by all. It was nice to have Friday through Monday without kids or worries and to shop, play games, eat, sleep and make fun of each other, what is getting together with family if there isn't mocking of other people? I mean really? Anyone for a "donut"?
I know, I hate inside jokes as much as anyone...and really I think only one person reads my blog from the Davis family, so it's probably pointless to have included that...but now you'll all be annoyed as to what in the world "donuts" has to do with anything.

April is our busy month, we have Brielle's birthday on the 5th, our anniversary on the 16th and Claire's birthday on the 29th. I'm pretty sure we'll just party the whole month rather than try and set up different parties for each thing. It really should just be our motto of April - "Party like your husband is leaving on May 4th and you won't see him again for a few months!" It's a bit of a mouthful, but I think Claire can handle it.

On that note, the update to the army thing goes as follows: Marty leaves on May 4th. Anything else really matter? Not really.

THAT will be when my quarter life crisis happens I'm sure! Here I've been hoping my kids screaming, my empty bank account, my squeaky car, my swollen hips (yes, swollen, not fat) would throw me in to the crisis and I had forgotten that around the corner my husband will be leaving! Crisis, here we come.

*It's joke or go crazy, you take your pick.*

Thank you....except not.

Dear Foreign Mall Kiosk Sales Lady -

I wanted to write to thank you for interrupting my precious alone time with my husband today while we were leisurely strolling around the mall, even though when you offered me lotion I politely declined by saying, "No thank you".

I want to thank you for "having a question for me" causing me to stop out of concern for another human being only to then have you inappropriately grab my hand, admire my wedding ring and drag me by the hand back to your kiosk to perform "your magic" on my fingernail.

Thank you for oddly holding my hand and "buffing" my fingernail until it shined as much as my diamond ring and trying to engage me in an infomercial type interaction by asking silly questions and getting excited about the answers.

Thank you for pointing out that I am apparently an embarrassment to society by saying, "You have such a pretty face, why not do anything about those?" (while pointing at my zits).

Without you I would have gone through life oblivious to the fact that due to the stress in my current situation my face has decided to explode in protest. Without you I would have gone on thinking it was not noticeable and that I was beautiful and captivating.

Thank you for making me realize I now must hide my face and not go in public. What would I have done without you?!

Retarded lady.

All you ever cared to know about what's going on in our lives.

It seems everything in our lives is up in the air at the moment and the one thing I'm holding on tightly to is the fact that spring is around the corner and I can hopefully start being outside more. Going for walks, playing in the yard, so many things I want to do in the sun!

It just so happens that the first day of spring is on my birthday...I do not think it's a coincidence at all. I mean the day I came in to the world I'm sure the sun started shining brighter, flowers started to bloom. I mean...have you met me? I'm everything spring entails, joy, sunshine, happiness...especially in the mornings...or if you take my chocolate.

As many know already, Marty is about to go off to basic training for the army, a.k.a. boot camp, a.k.a. biggest loser with people that hate you. We're keeping our fingers crossed that we will get an EXACT day tomorrow. It was originally set to be March 25th but what I haven't talked about is the fact that we've opted to go the active army route versus the army reserves which will probably change the day he leaves.

Yep, quite a change I know but we're excited. After Marty completes basic training (9 weeks) we're all moving to San Antonio, Texas for his 6 months of training to be a radiology technician. I can hardly wait to be in Texas through the hottest part of the summer!! (Note the thick layer of sarcasm.) This training was originally 1 year but as we were mulling over decisions found out they just cut it in half this year to 6 months!

Marty had always planned on becoming a radiology technician and was originally going to go through the reserves to help pay for school and stuff. But when we realized that the army offered the same training and it took 6 months instead of almost 4 years of going to school full-time and working at a job he adores (a.k.a. dislikes a great deal) more than anything in the world, it seemed like a no brainer.

If you're still hanging in there, trying to make it through this monster post, I commend you. Don't feel that you need to...but if you want more details then feel free to continue. Just don't say I didn't warn you.

The reason we went for the active duty instead of reserves is that it cuts the time in half from 6 years to 3 years of enlistment, and we wouldn't be able to go with him for his 6 months training if he was in the reserves. We knew that we couldn't be away from each other for 8 months (basic and radiology training combined) and this was the way we could keep our little family intact.

After his 6 months of training we're off again, this time we have no idea where to. We're pretty sure we're going to put Hawaii as our number one choice on the wish list...hey, we can dream can't we?

They will station us where there is a VA hospital and for a little over 2 years he will get to work there as a radiology technician and then we're done and free to move on with our lives with the degree he wants and 2 years of experience in his job field.

My biggest concern is moving away from family. I will miss all the family dinners and the spur of the moment getting together. But I'm SO excited for me and Marty and our little family to have this experience that will help us learn to rely more on each other.

Now if only I can convince my brain that this IS just a big adventure and not at all scary we'll be set. :)
